Posted: 11/13/13 at 2:28pmI'm glad. I want to see the show but don't feel it's worth the $100+ they ask for on Broadway. I will just wit until it comes to Louisville and get my $69 front row seat thank you very much! :)

It'll do quite well on tour, I sure it'll be almost identical to Broadway in terms of set design since the original set was designed to be tourable.
#3NEWSIES Tour Fall 2014
Posted: 11/13/13 at 2:38pmI agree it should do well. Anything that has "Disney" slapped above it, people eat up.

Posted: 11/13/13 at 2:51pmYay it's coming to Boston! I thought it would for sure play at the Colonial instead of the Opera House but whatever. It will probably be one of the headline shows next season! Can not wait!

Posted: 11/13/13 at 3:01pmYea and they're going to Waterbury, CT instead of Hartford and/or Providence, RI. Interesting choice but whatever I'm sure instead of a return to Boston in the near future they'd go to Hartford and/or Providence instead.

I thought Newsies was worth the lotto price I paid, and I don't plan to go again, but it'll make a lot of kids (and adults!) happy on tour!
I'm going to guess that the age of the cast might skew slightly older than on Broadway, since they'll need chaperones if they're under 18, right?

^ most of the Broadway cast is over 18, though the average age has gotten a bit younger than the original cast.
ETA: I'm so excited it's finally going to tour!! I was just talking about the possibility of that this week with one of my friends
(though I didn't believe it was likely given the London announcement)

The current discounts for Broadway is for $81 orchestra, btw.

Posted: 11/13/13 at 4:28pmJust to point out that instead of going to the Kennedy Center, they are going to the national theatre. I would consider this the National Theatre's second large acquisition after If/Then. Is the Kennedy Center losing its touch?

Posted: 11/13/13 at 5:33pmLet's hope it comes to New Orleans! The powers that be at the two main theatres in town LOVE scheduling Disney shows since they sell so well, so if it doesn't come for 2014, I bet we'll get it 2015-2016.

Posted: 11/14/13 at 1:21amcould this mean the Broadway production could be closing at some point soon?

PlayitAgain,
That makes no sense at all. The tour and the Broadway production are two totally different things. Why would one rely on the other? I think that Disney wanted to make sure that the show was successful on Broadway prior to spending money on a tour.

Posted: 11/14/13 at 2:59amI wouldn't be surprised if this posted a closing notice in the next few months, if not weeks.
#21NEWSIES Tour Fall 2014
Posted: 11/14/13 at 3:44amThe whole notion of them closing to go on tour doesn't make sense at all. Disney canceled a few performances just a month or two ago to replace the entire deck of the stage. The original one wasn't intended to last as long as it did because Disney originally though it was going to play for its initial limited run and then close. That procedure wasn't a cheap move on Disney's part, and wasn't something that they would do if they don't intend to stay at the Nederlander for awhile. Remember, the show recouped awhile back. Anything else they make now is just extra.

Disney will have no problem casting the tour. Think of all the young dancers that are in regional and summer stock! It's just all the more for them to get cast in one of the most popular Disney titles. And of all goes well, this could turn into a large networking system for the show.

That's the trend with much all the touring markets. It really sucks.

"Casted" is not a word. When you want to talk about someone being in a show you say that they were cast in a show not casted in a show.
