NY City Center Gala attire questions

Hi,

I'm planning on attending the Grand Reopening of New York City Center Gala Performance (not the dinnner) and am wondering about the attire for women. Are knee-length coctail dresses acceptable, or should only long gowns be worn?

I would think since you are not going to the dinner, you need not dress up. Just be presentable, if you want to where a dress that is fine, business attire would work too. I am sure there will be people attending the show who are dressed down.
