Stagehands and Producers Break Off Talks
By THE NEW YORK TIMES
Talks between the producers’ league and the stagehands’ union broke off yesterday without a settlement that would have ended the strike that has left most of Broadway dark for nine days.
After 13 hours of negotiations on Saturday, the union, Local 1 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, and the League of American Theaters and Producers returned to the Westin New York hotel at 9:30 a.m. yesterday. Twelve hours later, the talks had ended, and the strike was still on.
Among other changes, producers want more flexibility on how many stagehands are needed on the clock at certain times. The union has said it is open to some proposals in exchange for benefits of equal value.
Three of the four Broadway shows scheduled to appear in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade are not affected by the strike. Cast members from the fourth show, “Legally Blonde” will also be able to perform in the parade. But they will not be wearing the exact costumes they wear in the show because the wardrobe union is honoring the picket line.
this is seriously ridiculous. I feel horrible for The Grinch, it's gonna lose 11 performances this week. I honestly don't know what side to look more at anymore.
hmm...im real curious to see what the LEGALLY BLONDE cast is going to wear at the parade?
thats probably the least of anyone's worries right now, though.

Actually, GRINCH would lose 15 performances if dark all this week.

Did you all miss the other thread?
the shame is. this is America and a small group of people are directly responsible for, people who want to go to work and earn a paycheck being denied their right to make an honest living...how many stagehands are doing side jobs at their neighbors houses this past week.
and all the other trades supporting them
what other union member can just go and pick up work as easy as an electrician or a carpenter.
its a dam shame to screw so many people out of a days pay.
but i guess after 121 years of calling the shots they think they are the boss..
"what other 3 shows are performing Thursday?"
Xanadu, Legally Blonde, Mary Poppins, and I don't know the 4th.

this is from the official myspace
Lea and John will be on the M&M Candy Float. The colorful M&M’s are at it again, this time taking Broadway by storm. Red and Yellow, along with Blue, Green and Orange have transformed into Broadway stars taking the stage in the best productions on the Great White Way. Taking a ride on a Broadway themed float, the colorful chocolate bunch take on roles in some of Broadway’s best-hit musicals. Red transforms into King Arthur in Spamalot, Yellow and Orange tap dance their way onto the front of the line in A Chorus Line, Green defies gravity as Elphaba in Wicked, and Blue hides behind the Phantom’s mask in The Phantom of the Opera. Joining the tasty stars will be Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff, stars of the Tony Award(R) winning Spring Awakening, performing "Give My Regards to Broadway."
Oh, I'd heard about them singing "Give My Regards to Broadway" on a float. I'd also heard that four shows were going to perform before the parade. LB, Xanadu, and MP. I hadn't heard of a 4th show being added for the start of the parade.
Young Frankenstein is the fourth
Thanks. I'd been watching for the announcement but it must have slipped by me. Based on something I'd read I figured it had to be YF but I wasn't 100% sure.
At the rate both sides are going, they could easily wipe out the entire holiday season
Should that happen, the economic reprecussions of numerous shows closing & restaurants & businesses closing will be devastating.
If it goes thru the holiday, than come Jan/Feb/March. Question to local 1, if you are worried about jobs what about the jobs your members will lose when a slew of shows close?
