NY trip questions
NY trip questions#1

My family and I might be visiting NY at the end of august. This would be my second time to NY- on my previous trip I saw: Jersey Boys, The Color Purple, Grey Gardens and Les Mis. This time however my family is coming aswell, so we need to see 1 or 2 family orientated shows besides a couple that I want to see.
so far....
I want to see: Xanadu and Spring Awakening
Family shows: some ideas are: Lion King, A Chorus Line, Hairspray
01) Which do you guys think would be the best 2 family shows to see?
02) Are then any discount codes available to any of the shows I mentioned that are not on broadwaybox? (especially for the family shows)
03) Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Posted: 7/18/07 at 12:44pmI think A Chorus Line could either be seen as a family show, or a not so family friendly show, depending on the family. The language might be a problem if you're looking for family friendly.

Define the type of family...
I agree with Kringas on this, A Chorus Line might not suit some families.
Wicked, and take your chances on the lottery, is a good choice. Curtains, has some language issues, is not a bad family show.
Have a good time in the city.

Posted: 7/18/07 at 7:19pmWicked, The Lion King and Mary Poppins are excellent choices for family shows. Although A Chorus Line is not as racy as Spring Awakening, I would not consider it a family show.

Posted: 7/18/07 at 8:33pmthanks for the suggestions. how is the cast of lion king these days?
re: NY trip questions#8
Posted: 7/22/07 at 5:00amI actually just came back from New York, and I saw Legally Blonde and The Lion King. Both are great, lots of fun and really amazing in general, and, to answer your earlier question, the Lion King cast is great- Kissy Simmons (Nala) and Wallace Smith (Simba) are fantastic.

try seeing something off-Broadway as well.
there's a lot of genuine theatre here that doesn't get a lot of splashy press.
the village voice is a good place to start looking:

Altar Boyz is off-B'way, for sure, but I was thinking of things a little more 'downtown,' a little more cutting edge. NYC theatre has more to offer than musical comedy.
