NYC Opera's Candide

Is anyone planning on seeing this? I would love to see Judy Kaye perform the role of the Old Lady.

Just got back- it was wonderful.
Does anyone know which lyrics Sondheim contributed? I think I knew at one point, but I've forgotten now and I'm curious...

I SAW IT!
I went to the performance on the 5th.
The show was excellent. I love the music and the comedy was greatly executed. All the voices were awesome.

The set is cool, I like the use of that huge floor piece type of thing.

I saw this show in 1997, also directed by Hal Prince. I wonder what version their doing. I know the 97 version wasnt released for production, it's a shame, i love it, and i dont like the versions that are for production

The version that City Opera is doing is called the Opera-House version published by Boosey and Hawkes.

I'm seeing it Saturday night. I can't wait, it was the first opera I ever saw and I loved it then. The music is some of my favorite out of all genres.

They are doing the Harold Prince "Opera House" version - the same one that was on Broadway with Jim Dale and Andrea Martin in 1997.

re: NYC Opera's Candide

A strange show. The book comes perilously close to falling apart at any conceivable moment. It's similar to Spamalot--nonsensical with vaudville moments. Nonetheless, the score is beautiful and the cast is talented (my goddess Judy Kaye is brillant!)
