I actually think Kate Winslet would be a better Charlotte than Gwenyth Paltrow...
And Marin Mazzie is really too old for that part. Charlotte is supposed to be in her late 20s!
I'd love to see Natasha Richardson as Desiree with her mother as Madame Armfeldt.

Not at all..the script says that Anne was flower girl at Charlotte's wedding which puts Charlotte closer in age to Desiree than Anne.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

The script also says that Anne went to school with Charlotte's younger sister. I doubt there is much more than a ten year age difference between siblings...
Now the truth of the matter is: Desiree is only supposed to be 35 years old (according the original Bergman film) and Margit Carlqvist who played Charlotte in that film was only 23. So perhaps we are both right.

I actually put Kate Winslet down for Charlotte first, MB, then changed my mind. I had her and Leonardo Di Caprio for Carl-Magnus!
And normally, I would agree with you about Marin, but the whole cast I listed is skewed that way. She is "age appropriate" in that mix.
Hell, if the cast of Gypsy can be as old as they are today, I'd better put Marin down for Anne Egerman instead.

Haha, but Christine as Desiree? I wonder how she'd do.
Mary Louise Wilson as Madame Arm. is an inspired choice! I'd love to see that!
Is there really anyone on Broadway now who could play Desiree?

Well, Anne is now 18. According to what I'm finding online, flower girls are traditionally between 3 and 8. If Charlotte married at 20, she is now somewhere between 30 and 35. Of course, we don't know at what age she married. She could be younger or she could be a bit older.
But given that Anne's best friend was Charlotte's younger sister (as mentioned by Michael Bennett), I'd lean toward the younger end of that range.
In another thread, people seemed to agree with me that Desiree ideally should appear to be somewhere between 40 and 45. Which seems to put Charlotte approximately in the middle between them.
