My thoughts exactly.
This show is not brilliant - nor is the cast. Brilliant is a tad too strong. The cast is excellent, how's that? The girls playing the 3 sisters are fantastic, and the show as a whole is actually good. It's too choppy and misguided - not sure whether it wants to be a homage to the band or to their father - but it's still generally well directed and well acted. Most of the music is very interesting and well written - not sure about the lyrics, I couldn't make them out half the time - but the melodies and actual MUSIC in the show is very very different. Some songs are very Shaggs-ish, and others more standard 60's. The best songs are those between the 3 sisters, regardless of subject matter, when they sing in tight 3 part harmony - it's just beautiful.
The show isn't amazing, but it has some great moments - and for being in a semi-early stage, like most shows at the festival, it has definite potential. I don't think this show is completely sold out at all - but even when they say the shows are sold out, they're generally exaggerating. It has certainly inspired me enough to go out and buy an actual Shaggs CD.
