re: Name That Theatre!

What was the book? I want it. It's funny but I know some of those theatres very well and wouldn't recogzie them from the images- the Starlight one baffled me, which is ridiculous!

And don't be nasty about my beloved Savoy!

I have comps for SA at the weekend, ( a flying visit, but for a free ticket I'm anyone's!) Hope you enoy it- I have a hunch you will!

Dev!
That is the Westminister Theatre isn't it?
We spoke about this little gem ages ago and you knew it better than me, it's the only one that really got me.

re: Name That Theatre!

It is indeed, although the colouration looks wrong- though I feel the same about many of the photos. Having said that, it's a great collection, and some of the angles are very unusual!

I am desperate for the title- I want to sink my claws into this one, because if the pictures are this good, the text is likely to be just as interesting!

re: Name That Theatre!

Ooops!
I've already nabbed it I'm afraid!

re: Name That Theatre!

There could be a very ugly fight outside French's at this rate!

re: Name That Theatre!

I got 2 out of the first 10 and then gave up demoralised!

I managed to guess the set of Bedroom Farce but had no idea which theatre it was in!!

I'm shocked I didn't recognise Drury Lane.

re: Name That Theatre!

I got the set of Bedroom Farce, because I built one very similar a few weeks ago, and the Apollo Vic because of the Starlight Express set.

Clearly I am crap!

Catfight. Now. Winner gets it =P Nah Mama did ask first, sorry! But if Mama decides he doesn't want it, you're next on the list re: Name That Theatre!

(I loved SA, feel free to throw any more comps my way =P )

re: Name That Theatre!

What I love about them is the brilliant angles they are taken from. At first I thought the Palace was the Apollo on Shatesbury Ave. (2nd group of pics, 3rd one down)
The pic makes it look so small but then I saw the Les Miz set and realized it was indeed the Palace!

Nice to see the ALdwich too, had no idea they used those hideous colours, is it still that colour?

re: Name That Theatre!

Back in 1988? when I worked at the Aldwych we had a new play by Michael Frayn called 'Look Look' which was a dreadful play about the actors watching the audience, complicated set up but the set itself was very clever. The design was that the set was a replica of the actual Aldwych auditorium on stage!
It was in those colors and for the entire, short, run I had a headache constantly. The color scheme is what the RSC had during the time the Aldwych was their London home before going to the Barbican.

I love every one of these posted photos and have spent ages already studying them.

re: Name That Theatre!

Kind of OT, but the pic of the Prince Edward reminded me of something I've always wondered about Mamma Mia. Why did that original set have Orchestra steps that were never used in the show and never added to later productions?

And I think the one you said was the Geiguld is actually the Queens because of that awfull round chandelier thing (unless they both had one)

re: Name That Theatre!

And is number 24 the Lyric Hammersmith?
#42

re: Name That Theatre!

No, 24 aint lyric, ive checked my sneaky little pic from when i saw spring awakening, and there are differences, but deffinatley not that theatre!

re: Name That Theatre!

I've only been there once, about a year ago, so it was a guess re: Name That Theatre!

re: Name That Theatre!

Well, in that case was a bloody good case as that does look very similar to lyric hammersmith.... ish! hahaha re: Name That Theatre!

re: Name That Theatre!

So, I was browsing through my lovely new Scene/Unseen book, as recommended by Mama, and there is the picture of number 20. It's the St Martin's Theatre. I haven't been in there in my life, despite promising various friends I would see them in that wretched old tourist trap. I think the coloration of the picture we were given is much pinker than the real thing.

What year was the Dominion photo taken? Trying to work out what show's tech is all over the place (think it's Grease or WWRY.)
