Nashville School of the Arts Presents
“Metamorphosis” April 8 – 11, 2010
On April 8, 2010, students at Nashville School of the Arts will tackle a challenging play when they perform Charles Dizenzo’s stage adaptation of “Metamorphosis,” one of the most haunting novellas in modern literature. Published in 1915, German writer Franz Kafka tells the story of a traveling salesman named Gregor Samsa who awakens one morning in his family’s apartment to find himself transformed into a gigantic vermin.
The novella is considered a classic of the 20th century and is studied extensively in high schools and colleges. It is praised as a convincing metaphor for alienation in society. A recent production in London’s Westend received favorable reviews, especially for the lead character’s physically demanding performance.
Kara Y. Kindall directs a cast of 10 actors that includes Jacey Aldredge, Chloe Cappuccilli, Darian DeRiemer, Natalia Dyer, Julian Gonnella, Garrett Grabois, Caleb Jones, Markus McClain, Dresden Suits and Nathan Walls. Production Designers are Katy Armstrong, Mallory Crabtree, Wynne Dawson, Katy Armstrong and Leah Webster.
Show times are 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, April 8-10, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, in the school’s auditorium. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets will be on sale at the box office before each show. For more information contact Kara Kindall at (615)-291-6600 ext. 124 or email kara.kindall@mnps.org.
Nashville School of the Arts is Davidson County’s only visual and performing arts magnet high school, and was founded in 1993. NSA students work for Nashville’s professional theatre companies, its alumni perform on Broadway and dance with internationally known dance companies such as the Debbie Allen Dance Academy.
