I went. She was excellent and extremely funny. They added a second performance on February 15th, so if you missed it last night, catch her then!

Was she as dead behind the eyes as she always is? While I do think that Natalie Weiss has a fantastic singing voice...there isn't much going on as far as her acting the song skills are concerned.

I thought she was great, but I am a bit biased. I loved her song choices. She had a good mix of ballads and uptempo songs. She sang some well known songs, and some unknown ones. She did several of her impersonations, which were quite amusing. Overall, I think she's a great performer, and very entertaining to watch.

The only disappointment of the evening was that she did not sing Scott Alan's "I'm a Star."

Weiss has a very pretty voice, but she has absolutely zero emotional connection to or investment in any of the material she performs. Most of the time, it seems she doesn't even comprehend what the songs she chooses to sing are about. She's almost always solely focused on just standing there and hitting the notes, with a few (overly used) riffs thrown in for good measure.

I can't imagine that served her well in a solo concert setting.

That being said, some of her vocal impersonations of other artists are spot on. It's weird to me that she has so much personality when imitating someone else but absolutely none on her own accord.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Natalie is an incredible talent...

She will always have more success and fans than the nasty trolls who diss her on websites like this. People who wish they had some kind of semblance of a career in musical theater.

Those who can't make it take to the bway message boards to vent their frustration.

sad.

I thought she was great in Ryan Scott Oliver's Rated RSO at Joe's Pub and Bobby Cronin's Reach The Sky concert singing Move On.

Why do I always think her mother or Natalie herself starts these threads?

And I have worked in the theatre a long, long time and have no jealousy of her, I'm sure she is a lovely person, If she was as talented as some threaders say they would have revived FUNNY GIRL for her already.
I have seen her perform and she leaves me entirely cold.

I think she has a great, possibly even "excellent" voice. But she's got the emotional depth of a shallow puddle. She comes off on recordings decently b/c you can't see the dead, glassy look in her eyes.

I wanted to like her, but I just can't get past the emotional void.

I have to agree with others on this one. Her voice is pretty fabulous, but every time you watch her sing, it's the same blank look. There is no connection to the material whatsoever.
