Weiss has a very pretty voice, but she has absolutely
zero emotional connection to or investment in any of the material she performs. Most of the time, it seems she doesn't even comprehend what the songs she chooses to sing are about. She's almost always solely focused on just standing there and hitting the notes, with a few (overly used) riffs thrown in for good measure.
I can't imagine that served her well in a solo concert setting.
That being said, some of her vocal impersonations of other artists are spot on. It's weird to me that she has so much personality when imitating someone else but absolutely none on her own accord.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
