Nathan Lane with Bernafette Peters
#0Nathan Lane with Bernafette Peters
Posted: 9/16/04 at 5:56pmOk, I did something I never do. I went to a Stephen Sondheim musical. It was nice to see once. Nathan was funny. So was Roger Bart who was nice at the stage door. Some may care to know that Bernadette Peters was in the audience last night with that "hair" as usual so no one could miss her. She came out of the stage door as well. She looks good still but must have been tired. Nathan ditched the stage door as usual.

First, I'm not sure why you never go see Sondheim shows but you are missing a lot of theater history by cutting out his shows. He is a genius in our time.
Secondly, 'that hair' happens to be Ms Peters' hair...whether you like it or not, it isn't as if she is purposely making it that way to call attention to herself. Her hair is her hair.
As for Lane 'ditching the stage door as usual', why make it sound as if he has done something wrong. AGAIN...stage door appearances are at the discretion of the artist and if he chooses not to come to the door to see his adoring fans, he is entitled. He has performed and worked for the money you spent on the ticket. Let him go on with the rest of his day/night.
Glad you liked the show.

Posted: 9/16/04 at 6:52pmNathan is required to come out the stage door because I say so . . . as usual.

Contrary to public opinion, Lane does come out to sign sometimes and many people have had a pleasant experience with him.
However, if you are going to the matinee on Saturday it is unlikely you will see him. He doesn't come out to sign frequently anyway but rarely comes out between shows on a day when he has a matinee and an evening show. Many performers choose to stay away after matinees and use their time to rest and take a break.
Good luck and if you DO see him, use your best stage door etiquette. Don't gush and say 'I am your biggest fan and I thin kyou are wonderful'...just hand him your Playbill to sign and say 'thank you' and be gone or you may fall victim to his legendary sarcastic wit.
Enjoy the show.

Posted: 9/16/04 at 7:17pmhaha, i will certainly take your advice. i'm guessing that he wouldn't be terribly eager to take photographs with people then?

If he comes out and is willing to sign, he will take a photo but just keep it short and polite -- my advice to dealing with ANY performer but especially with Lane.
You may get lucky but, as I said, if it's a matinee, he is probably not going to be there. Roger Bart usually is so you'll get to see some of the actors anyway

"However, if you are going to the matinee on Saturday it is unlikely you will see him."
Of course my mother would buy tickets to the Saturday matinee. I mean, it's given. What little chances I had of sputtering "...Playbill?" to Nathan are mercilessly crushed.

Hmmm. If you want to try to get Nathan to sign your Playbill, you just might be FORCED to see it again, Mythus!

Don't be discouraged...go as planned and hope for the best. If you don't see Nathan you will probably still get to see others from the cast...and you WILL get to see a great show.

Posted: 9/16/04 at 10:42pmShe was with four people including some old lady who she huged and put in a cab. She then walked west on 65th St. from the stage door with the other people. I can;t remember what she was wearing. I was distracted by her "hair."

Bernafette Peters huged people?
That clone is doing some wacky things...

Posted: 9/17/04 at 12:41amI tend to agree with bronxboundexpress, or with what he implied about that hair. Someone should tell her about that unwritten law that says women over 40 (or 50 for that matter) shouldn't wear their hair long, very unflattering. It is also very 80's. was she wearing acid wash jeans and leg warmers too? While I'm at it would someone speak to Goldie Hawn about the hair thing too?
