I was wondering about the quality of National Tour Productions. I am interested in seeing Hairspray and Wicked. Any opinions on how the National Tour shows hold up?

I would imagine that both these tours are/will be first class all the way.

I know Hairspray is just as wonderful. The only quality that might be lower on a national tour is the look of the show.
Whos Jenna Leigh Green playing in Wicked? (Pardon my ignorance, I ignored all posts of speculation debating who would fill the Wicked National Tour roles)

She's playing Nessarose and understudying Elphaba. I really hope I get a chance to see her as Elphaba (or even Nessa.)
I saw the national tour of Hairspray at the Pantages in Hollywood and the Broadway production a month later. There is no difference in quality, at least in this case. Some shows which require very intricate sets may have a less elaborate set on tour, but Hairspray and Wicked are both first-class Equity tours, not overnight bus-and-truck ones (though those too can be good) so don't hesitate to see either of them.
rent is a bus and truck tour and that set was phenominal, and the cast is far better and fresher feeling than the broadway company
