I feel what he said was tacky and unprofessional.
Everyone knows actors are neurotic insecure beings. This is more likely to wither thier confidence than "light a fire under them".

I have always loved Ned's work, but he could have waited till after the show closed to make his statements.

But, BOY, he sure has a purty mouth!

If this were not a limited run, I think the producers might look to replace him - good reviews & all. Maybe they can weather the storm or maybe he might leave. Another alternative is to say he was a little potted & did not know what he was saying & apologize. A little damage control here
