Hi! I will be auditioning for Titanic this coming Monday. I am singing "Unusual Way" from Nine. But, I don't really know what the show is about and if it differs or shares similarities to the movie. I only saw the movie once and I know the general theme - a big cruiseliner, thought unsinkable, sinks. Ha ha.
Can anyone share a brief synopsis or point me in the direction of one? Also, are there any videos on You Tube?
Thanks so much!

Awww, that was a little mean...
It's nothing at all like the film. No "I'm King Of The World" or painting women nude (or spitting...). It's about the different classes on-board the ship and different stories that happen within them. It's quite an classical/old fashioned broadway score, IMO. To be honest I didn't like the show much.

Posted: 8/3/07 at 5:18pmThere's no Jack. There's no Rose. There's no Cal. There's no Brock. There is a Captain Smith. There is a Thomas Andrews. There is a big boat. It sinks. There is singing. No hearts will go on, though.

Nope. Show was as dry as a bone.
Down, down, down she goes...

And now for the second of possibly only two serious replies...
The musical is based around the actual stories of the real people on board the ship. The main plot lines lie with the third class passengers who dream of a better life, and the crew. What I liked about the show is that it really humanizes the people who died and you actually do care about them. There are also some beautiful songs in it. I hope that helps you and break a leg.

Posted: 8/4/07 at 2:42amThe script to this show is really weak, but the score is magnificent. I love this show. It is one of the few shows that having done I would like to do again. (I was in one of the first productions after the original) It is truly an ensemble piece. It is really impossible even to say if there is a lead in it. Some people will say Barret, the stoker, some will say andrews. it's just a really interesting show, in spite of the book. I don't know what you r range is, but most of the guys have to hit G's and the girls are primarily soprano's (probably more mezzo). The score for the chorus is really high for the most part (tenors have some C's held for about an hour!). If you have a high legit voice def. show that off.

Thanks for the serious replies. I was going to sing Unusual Way, and although it's legit and soprano, the highest note is an E. I have other soprano songs in my repertoire such as If I Loved You, Till There Was You and Unexpected Song (which is really rangey). I'll probably do Till There Was You since it's short and I can get to the high G in that in 16 bars.
Thanks for your thoughts. I'll let you know how it goes.
