Posted: 7/5/06 at 4:55pmCalling all set designers/architects/anyone with a little artistic ability. I need some help thinking up a simple set design for Sondheim's "Company". Keep in mind that my theatre group is working off of a pretty tight-budget. Also, we're keeping the show set in the '70s! Pictures and ideas are welcome. Please PM me! Thank you thank you thank you :)

I don't have any pictures but it consisted on wooden planks and railings. The curtains were changed and set peices such as tables and beds were brought on stage.

We won't have a set per se, it'll be all metaphoric and minimalistic rather than naturalistic which I believe works very well for Company.

A college production I simply had a piece of furniture that suggested the setting - a bed for the "Barcelona" scene (obviously), a bean bag chair for the pot scene, etc. They did a bit with lights to make it work better, obviously. Company is a perfect show for a minimalist set.

'Company' is one of my dream sets to design.
I have a feeling I would probably make sets look more realistic, and not so non linear- like the play is.
I just dont think its been done, (i could be way wrong) but most designers of the show make it so minimal because it compliments the show. However, so can a realistic setting. It all depends on the directors visison I guess.
