Broadway’s Brightest Raise Funds for BC/EFA in “Berg/Off-B’way”
Guest appearance by the original ‘Lil Abner, Peter Palmer
Peter Palmer, of Lil’ Abner fame, will join Rob Evan (emcee), Brian d’Arcy James, Judy McClane, James LaBrie, Rita Harvey, Danny Zolli and others in a celebration of music by composer/lyricist Neil Berg to benefit BC/EFA. Berg/Off- B’way will take place on August 11 at The Lamb’s Theatre at 8:00pm. All proceeds will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, which is the ongoing, committed response from the American Theatre community to an urgent worldwide health crisis. BC EFA is the nation’s leading industry-based, non-profit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization.

Neil Berg is the composer/lyricist of The Prince and the Pauper currently running at The Lamb’s Theatre in Times Square. Berg is also working on the new musical, Tim Crachit and the Ghost of Ebenezer Scrooge, scheduled for a 2005 Broadway opening by producer Adam Friedson, and the rock musical The Twelve, with producer Carolyn Rossi Copeland. This concert marks the first time in almost ten years that an evening has been dedicated to Berg’s work; his Asylum in the Night received the 1995 Bistro Award. Berg/Off-B’way marks Peter Palmer’s return to the New York stage after more than 30 years. The musical Lil’ Abner catapulted him to fame and ran for 693 performances at the St. James Theater in the mid-1950’s before being turned into a movie in 1959, both of which starred Palmer in the title role.

Also scheduled to appear are Rob Evan (Jekyll & Hyde), Brian D’Arcy James (Sweet Smell of Success), Judy McClane (Into the Woods), James LaBrie (lead singer of Dream Theater), Rita Harvey (The Phantom of the Opera), Michael Lanning (The Civil War), Jeri Sager (Cats), Danny Zolli (Jesus Christ Superstar) William Michaels (Beauty and the Beast) and many more special surprise guests. To round out the evening, a nine-piece band and full ensemble of Broadway veterans will be conducted by John Glaudini and Gaylon Butler. The Lamb’s Theatre is located at West 44th Street between Sixth Avenue and Broadway. Reserve tickets ($40) for Berg/Off-B’way, August 11 at 8:00pm are available at www.SmartTix.com or by calling 212-868-4444.
