I caught a preview performance of this yesterday at Philadelphia Theatre Company. A satirical take on the Microsoft/Apple war, I thought Nerds was a lot of fun.
Jim Poulos (who remains my favorite Mark in Rent) was a fine Bill Gates, although his voice seems to be under some strain. Charlie Pollack was hilarious as Steve Jobs and can wail like a banshee. The supporting cast was were pretty great and even included Revenge of the Nerds's own Wormser, Andrew Cassese!
The score by Hal Goldberg is pretty catchy and the book by Jordan Allen-Dutton and Eric Weiner provides a lot of laughs. A few jokes fall flat, but it's still in previews, so who knows what will happen in the next few days?
If you're in the Philadelphia area I highly recommend going to see it.

DAVID GALLO!!!!!!!!! How's the set?
I wish I could see it. I absolutely love Eric, and I've heard good things about the show.
Here's a rave review for Nerds from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
I got to see this last week and really enjoyed it. It's well worth taking the train from New York for. Nerds feels like an extended "Mad TV" sketch about the history of personal computers, only with a well crafted and varied score. The cast are all outstanding, and the five piece band under the direction of Matt Doebler provides lots of energy. I expect we'll be hearing more about this show in the future.

I saw this twice. It has improved since previews. Also, they loosened Jim's pants :)
Those who saw the 1st preview understands.
Chandra and Emily are also really great and enjoyable in this show.
Go see. :)

What a great review they got. I really loved this show. I wonder if a transfer to New York is in the cards.

They did it last summer at the New York Theater Festival. One of my dearest friend's was in it and it was filled with Broadway veterans. It was a huge disappointment that they didn't use them for the PA show.
I agree that it a great show and needs to be a huge success. My husband, who's a computer programmer and likes but doesn't love much musical comedy, LOVED this one and knew it could bring more people like him to the theater.
I say, put it on a New York stage for an open run!
saw it today!!! It was great. I think it would do well at New World...even better, was that Megan Lawrence was on for Sally. I do not think she was the original understudy, but must have been involved with the production somehow. Anyway, she was FANTASTIC...and she only learned the part in 2 days! That is a professional right there.

I fell in love with the show when it was in Philly and am so excited to see it's making its way to Broadway. I absolutely need to have a cast recording.
