Never Gonna Dance

I was just wondering if anyone know which company holds the rights for this show. I would just love to look at the script, I am sure that people are going to say it was a terrible show, blah, blah, blah, I am not interested in that, just wanna know the company that holds the rights.

Thanks
Joel

I cannot say with any certainty that it is licensable, but the R&H Library handles the rights for all of Irving Berlin's material. At least a place to start.

Ok looked there and they didn't have it. I have most of the companies in my favorites, because I am the president of a small community theatre group here in St. Louis, and I checked all of them, and I just can't seem to find it. I guess no one wants to see the show done again.

re: Never Gonna Dance

It's Jerome Kern, not Irving Berlin.

It is possible that because of all the different lyricists involved, the show might never be licensable. Besided dealing with Kern's estate, you have to deal with different people for each of the lyricists. The licensing agencies might have determined that it wasn't worth all the legal wrangling for a property with such little appeal.

It's one thing to clear the rights for the songs for Broadway. It's a whole other mess coming up with agreements for regional, community theatre, colleges, etc.

Jon, you are so right about it being Kern. Where was my brain?

re: Never Gonna Dance

It was done by Music Theatre West in Long Beach - last season I believe. So somebody has the rights!
Faced with these Loreleis, what man can moralize!
