I guess Jerry Mitchell's choreography simply didn't do the trick. Best wishes to the cast of Never Gonna Dance.

Do you feel better now?

Knowing that there will be a theater open to showcase a talented choreographer's work...yes. Updated On: 2/2/04 at 04:03 PM

You know what?
I'm willing to sacrifice my account should Rob and Craig choose to cancel it based on what I am about to say.
BestofBroadway, you are perhaps the biggest P@#$% I have ever read on a message board. Vendetta aside, to post that you would prefer a show closed so that the theater opens up that will feature a choreographer you prefer.
You are a sad, SAD little man, BestofBroadway. And I pity you. Because as much as you think you might love (good) theater - you have little respect for it.
But I (and others) rest easy knowing that you are transparent. Everyone on here knows your agenda and we aren't buying it.
Here's an idea B.O.B. - create a thread about something you'd like to discuss that has nothing to do with anything hairspray related. Or perhaps you aren't that clever...
Rob, Craig - I apologize as I know there aren't personal attacks allowed on this board but I simply couldn't let this post go..

Dang.
This is getting good.
I think you ought to meet in Shubert Alley after the closing performance and slap each other senseless to the enjoyment and amusement of the exiting audience members.
Its on my calendar. The 15th at 6:00, Shubert Alley. Be there or you'll regret it so much that you will have to lie and say that you were a witness.
This is drama.
Its sad that its closing but I found it funny that my tickets were for Feb 16 aka the day before it closes. All switched and stuff for a new day so its all good now. It's too bad its closing though- I've heard good things about it.

This post has nothing to do with Hairspray...so why are you bringing that up? This post has to do with Never Gonna Dance and the fact that there was no way it was ever gonna run with choreography by Jerry Mitchell, who choreographed poorly LONG before Hairspray.

No I don't have issues with everyone involved in Hairspray...I love Kerry Butler, Harvey Fierstein, Mary Bond Davis, Dick Latessa, and Corey Reynolds. I love the vast majority of the work by Jack O'Brien (Damn Yankees, Henry IV)...basically I just don't care for Shaiman's expectations of theater, Marissa Jaret Winokur abilities as an actress or singer, and Jerry Mitchell's choreography.

yes. we got it. moving on...
O dear.
Yes, I am too saddened to see Never Gonna Dance close. I was going to suprise my grandparents with tickets to it in June for their 55th Wedding Anniversary. They love swing music- this would have been right up their alley.

Too bad!
I kind of liked this show, a lot.
I may not be a granddaddy , yet, but I enjoyed the Jerome Kern tunes, and Noah and Nancy were great.
Today has been a bummer in more ways than one (I hit a deer on my way home) and now this.
Nancy was great?
Were we at the same show. I thought she was horrid.
I wanted to rename this show Nancy please never sing!
bestofbroadway- You are totally and completely insulting. Jerry Mitchell is EXTREMELY talented. Let's see you raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for BC/EFA.
I also love his choregraphy. He is very talented.
The dance numbers were great in Never Gonna Dance.
The leads singing was the problem.
Oh and i loved the last Dance number it was stunning.
Oh and so where the costumes.

Raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for a charity has nothing to do with being a good choreographer. Maybe he should devote his time to raising money for charities.

I hope that works. We tried voting him off the island a couple years ago, but he kept turning up like a bad penny.
NEVER GONNA DANCE is not closing because of Jerry Mitchell. It's because its talented leads have no extra-special-star quality and the book is stupid beyond belief. And the two women in the cast that DO have that extra pizazz are stuck in supporting parts.
Musto nailed it when he called it CRAZY FOR THOROUGHLY MODERN 42 STREET.
