I want to go to the Actors' Fund concert of On The Twentieth Century, and the most affordable seats ($75-100) are in the balcony. Has anybody here ever sat balcony at the New Amsterdam? If so, would you recommend it?

I sat in the balcony (and 5 or 6 rows back, and off to the side at that) for that Sondheim concert "Children and Art" (or was that "Art and Children"?) and I thought the view was surprisingly good--you can see everything and can even see faces well enough, though I brought binoculars for some close-ups of my favorites. So, MelissaErricoFan, if you want to see "20th Century" and can afford the pricetag, I'd say do it.

Sorry about bumping such an old thread.

I've apparently become the go-to person for theater information in my family. My aunt called me yesterday asking about the seating in the New Amsterdam. As I've never seen Mary Poppins, I'm not quite sure what she her best options are. She had the options of rear Orchestra row S and mezz. row FF. I told her to take the mezz. seats, but she called me back later and asked about the "dancing on the ceiling" and if she would miss it from the mezz.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm terribly sorry to bother everyone with a "Are these seats any good?" post.

I would say the mezz. That's only like the 6th row back, right? Shouldn't miss anything. Whereas row S IS under the overhang and the tap dancing on the ceiling will be blocked then.

just dont sit in the front row of the balcony, it is very uncomfortable, there is no leg room whatsoever.

I love the balcony view in The New Amsterdam. First off, I am not one to be picky about seating in a theatre and I can't understand at times why people are. I just feel lucky to be in the damn building to begin with.

That being said, I love the balcony for Poppins because I love sitting higher up because I feel that when I am seeing a dance heavy show I get a lot more out of the dancing if I watch it from higher up. I also think that the New Amsterdam's balcony lets you sit higher up without having to squint.
