Hello all!

I just started reading The Secret Life of the American Musical: How Broadway Shows Are Built by Jack Viertel. I didn't see a thread about this yet, but I wanted to share this book with all of you because I know MANY of you would find it interesting. I have been thoroughly enjoying it thus far. Like with any Broadway book, there is quite a bit of stuff that die hard Broadway fans like us already know, but there is also some very interesting analyses and stories. Anyways, just wanted to share this with you all!???????

I'm reading it, too.  I'm familiar with much of what's in it, but it's also informative: for instance, I'd never heard the term "the noise."   Viertel has a felicitous writing stye, which makes for a breezy, fun read.

When I first spied the cover, I immediately thought of the Walter Kerr marquee.  Not a coincidence, I think.
