re: New CDs for my collection

No, I'm a Canadian. My family is in Ottawa but I ended up in Toronto. We just got word today that Priscilla Queen of the Desert, which we were supposed to be getting as part of the Mirvish subscription season, has been postponed until the following year. No explanation given. It was replaced by Legally Blonde.
Actually I thought Madonna did a great job as Evita and could have had an Oscar nod to go with her Golden Globe nomination.
I saw the new Sunset Blvd in the West End in February. I have always felt it was the dark jewel in ALW's crown. I don't know how any show works with the actors playing instruments, and I certainly wouldn't have expected Sunset to work in that way, but it was brilliant. I hope it transfers to Bdwy, but I guess that's not likely to happen.

re: New CDs for my collection

My partner and I missed PRISCILLA during BOTH its runs in Sydney. I'm not a big fan of films turned into musicals where background songs are brought to the forefront (FOOTLOOSE, DIRTY DANCING) or sloppy juke box musicals either, like MAMMA MIA! I would have seen PRISCILLA had we been able to get cheap or free tickets, but not full price.

I wonder is that SUNSET BLVD is by the same director who did SWEENEY TODD and COMPANY, where the cast played their own instruments? We saw that production of COMPANY and loved it (even managed to sit behind Alan Rickman).

The director of the new Sunset Blvd had the interesting name of Craig Revel Horwood. It definitely was not John Doyle of Sweeney Todd and Company fame. It was so inventive, particularly in the use of the instruments the actors were holding as props. Very much downscaled from the sumptuous original production. I remember the actor playing Joe Gillis was required to play flute, guitar and piano during the course of the show. Only Norma never played an instrument.

I thought the actors in COMPANY on Broadway were equally talented playing all their own instruments. We have the official DVD but haven't watched it it. Will do so, soon.

That's a very good idea of having everyone play instruments except Norma. Speaks volumes about her character.

I've never seen (or heard) SUNSET BLVD the musical or the movie! I know the couple of famous songs, but that's it.

I bought the Company DVD just yesterday..I did buy it on the iTunes (US store) though I heard it has a special feature of "An Audience with Stephen Sondheim" taped at the Theatre Royal in Sydney :P, which I'm most looking forward to.

Hopefully the musical performances are still there.
Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

If anyone wants Nine just pm me.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

It must be the season for Andrew Lloyd Webber for me. Not only did I get CATS, JOSEPH and EVITA cheaply recently, but today I got the Patti LuPone SUNSET BLVD new for $10!
