I was under the impression that it was being called a play with music because it met all of the requirments of a play with music. I know that at least that is originally what it was called. I am not sure if they added more songs for the Broadway Production, so it is now being considered a musical. All I know is that at some point it was a play with music.

From what I gathered from the yahoo video preview, Duncan Sheik said that it was a play but with these different musical vignettes, but when I watched the clips, it looked a real musical, but it's very avant garde.
