Why must Broadway torment us so?

hehe thanks Rath, she does it on the At Liberty DVD, and it is even more hysterical to hear than read!

I also like the story about the note Stritch got about wearing one of her Company earings (the costumer gave her 2 different ones) on her dowstage ear. hehe

Sedaka is a great talent and currently has writer a number one hit in the UK. His music has remained popular all around the world for almost 50 years. I think this show this might work. It certainly deserves a chance. I wish the the theater elitists on this board would stop thumbing their noses at anything which isn't Sondheim. The Sedaka show sounds like a fun production which could attract many generations of ticket buyers. Let's give everyone a fair chance. This show, unlike many of the highly acclaimed "genius" musicals, might have a long run and provided us with long term jobs!

I can understand (but not like) why they need to do a "Jukebox" job on Lennon, or the Beach Boys, or Lennon, but as Lou points out, Neil Sedaka is alive and well and still writing songs. Why not turn him loose on a NEW show with New Music?

If you want to appeal to the boomers, why aren't producers meeting with Billy Joel or Pete Townsend or Paul Simon or Carole King or any of a dozen other talents to shop the idea of a Broadway career? I pray we are getting close to the moment when a "Jukebox" musical is actually seen as less of a sure thing than a new score.
