It seems there is a new production of Phantom in the works to go on tour. I know some people find the current production to be tired, I am not in that camp.
I know the previous tour was quite costly to move around, but I am not sure how I would feel about this. What are your thoughts?

I would love to see a new touring production. I loved the original touring production and I didn't think it was tired at all, however a new tour would be great. I would love to see a new take on the show and design. It would cool if they used projections and video sequences like they are doing for the new Les Mis tour.

I dunno. For me so much of the reason Phantom works so well on stage is due to Hal Prince and Maria Bjornson (while the movie made so many boneheaded moves--like constantly showing the Phantom instead of keeping him hidding, that it seems unfair to use it as an example--I do think it shows how much Phantom really is reliant on its brilliant production). I'll be interested to hear who they do hire for it, and I guess part of the goal is that it can play in theatres that couldn't fit the previous tour, but... I don't think this is the same as Les Miz which does work better in concert or other productions than I think Phantom would.
