It seems there is a new production of Phantom in the works to go on tour. I know some people find the current production to be tired, I am not in that camp.
I know the previous tour was quite costly to move around, but I am not sure how I would feel about this. What are your thoughts?

I would love to see a new take on the show and design. It would cool if they used projections and video sequences like they are doing for the new Les Mis tour.

For me so much of the reason Phantom works so well on stage is due to Hal Prince and Maria Bjornson (while the movie made so many boneheaded moves--like constantly showing the Phantom instead of keeping him hidding, that it seems unfair to use it as an example--I do think it shows how much Phantom really is reliant on its brilliant production). I'll be interested to hear who they do hire for it, and I guess part of the goal is that it can play in theatres that couldn't fit the previous tour, but... I don't think this is the same as Les Miz which does work better in concert or other productions than I think Phantom would.
