Five Towns College is proud to announce that Dr. David Krasner, former Director of Undergraduate Theatre Studies at Yale University, will be Chair of the Division of Theatre, a BFA Theatre Program with concentrations in Musical Theatre, Acting and Design Technology.
David Krasner has been teaching acting and theatre for 40 years. He was a professional actor in New York for 12 years, appearing on stage and film; Director of undergraduate theatre studies at Yale University for 10 years; Head of the BFA acting program at Emerson College for five years; Dean of the School of the Arts at Dean College for 5 years; Head of the graduate directing program at Southern Illinois University for 2 years, and taught acting, voice, speech, movement, and directed plays at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York for 9 years. His students have won Obies and Tonies. He holds a Ph. D. in Drama from Tufts University, and was a student of Paul Mann, Kim Stanley, and Barbara Loden for acting. He is the author and editor of eleven books ranging from Method acting, theatre history, dramatic literature, modern drama, African American theatre, theatre and philosophy, American drama, and dramatic theory and criticism. He serves on the board of editors for Stanislavsky Studies, Theatre Journal, and African American Review. He was the recipient of the Betty Jean Jones Award for the best teacher of American theatre and drama (2008), and has twice received the Errol Five Towns College is proud to announce that Dr. David Krasner, the Hill Award from the American Society for Theatre Research for the best work on African American Theatre (1998, 2002). He is the co-editor of the University of Michigan Press’s series on Theatre. As an actor, he last performed Eddie Carbone in Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge in Massachusetts, which can be seen on YouTube.
Dr. Krasner brings a wealth of knowledge about teaching college theatre and what is needed to succeed in the professional theatre world. Five Towns College is honored and proud to welcome him to our family!
He joins an already extraordinary faculty in theatre made up of Oscar and Emmy Awards winners, Broadway stars and design professionals.
Milton Justice, the Director of Acting at Five Towns, has had the privilege of coaching and teaching a wide range of actors including Mark Ruffalo, Kevin Bacon, Chris Carmack, Sean Astin, Kyra Sedgwick, Benecio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Kathy Bates, and Patrick Stewart – to name a few. He has taught at Yale, N.Y.U., U.S.C., Unitec in New Zealand, as well as workshops in South Korea, Australia and The Czech Republic. For his work in film and television, he has received an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Nominations. Milton began his theatre career on Broadway, producing the world premiere of Tennessee Williams’ Vieux Carre. His most recent film producing effort, Losing Chase, marked Kevin Bacon’s directorial debut, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and won a Golden Globe Award for Helen Mirren. In March of 2017, he presented a Workshop at the International Stanislavsky Seminar in Prague.
Marie Danvers, Director of Musical Theatre, is best known for her starring turn as Christine in the Broadway and National Touring production of The Phantom of the Opera, having worked with producer/director Hal Prince. She has sung all over the world as Maria in West Side Story as well as the National and International Tour of The Fantasticks with Robert Goulet. She has appeared Off-Broadway with the Manhattan Theater Club and on Television in As The World Turns. Across the country she has played leading roles in A Chorus Line, Company, The Mikado, Brigadoon, Lend Me a Tenor, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and Cyrano de Bergerac to name a few. She holds an M.F.A. in Dramaturgy from Stony Brook University and received two Distinguished Alumni awards – one from Suffolk Community College, and the other from Oklahoma City University, where she earned a BFA in Dance. In May 2017, she received the Lorraine Kleinman Excellence in Teaching Award from Five Towns College.
Five Towns College is an Arts College supported by the most modern technology. Here students join a family of artists collaborating on their own stories. As Theatre Majors, students work on stage, in front of a camera or on the Television Studio right away. Students will study with faculty who love to teach and are active professionals in their chosen disciplines. Often, professors will work with students providing real entertainment world experiences applying what students have learned in the classroom.
