I'm looking to do some research on the theaters and shows that were located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Anyone have any good book or source recommendations?

There are a precious few good books written on the Yiddish Theatre. The most well-known one is David Lifson's "The Yiddish Theatre in America" it was written in 1965 and is long out of print, but you could probably find it in a good academic library. While you're there, I would also suggest taking a look at Volume 2 of "The Cambridge History of American Theatre" and Mary Henderson's "The City and The Theatre: New York Playhouses from Bowling Green to Times Square". If you want to do some serious research, contact the Museum of the City of New York (www.mcny.org)-- They might have some Yiddish Theatre material there.

Check out the YIVO Institute (http://yivo.org/) and also the Folksbiene (http://www.folksbiene.org/).

Yay, Yiddish!
