I scored cheap seats to Spamalot last night and got there to find out three of the main actors were out..Tim Curry(is he still in this show), Michael McGrath and Sara Ramirez.
John Bolton was awesome. I had seen him before. James Ludwig was pretty good as Patsy, but I think Michael made him a bit more lovable..hard to desribe.
Sara's understudy is now Jenny Hill. I think I might have seen her first show. During the Song that goes like this, it seemed she wasn't as in sync with Christopher Sieber, but I'm sure she will improve. She has a nice voice, but it's not as powerful. She can hit the high notes, but it's no where near as strong as Saras voice. She also wasn't as funny. She did do a few different things that were cool though, but for the most part it wasn't a performace you'd rave about. I don't think she did the ad lib Sara does at the end of Find Your Grail...you could hardly hear her singing it, like I said she can hit high notes, but not powerful.
She also had a few different costumes, including the dress at the end....it didn't change. And they changed the lyric in Diva's Lament once again....I liked this one...it was...
Sara's got her Tony award and I'm in and out of Betty Fords.

Posted: 8/3/05 at 1:36pmi feel ashamed for asking this because i'm so far behind on this show, but what does sara sing now during the diva's lament re: the tony line?

I think it's something along the lines of ...
"My Tony won't keep me out of Betty Ford's.."
Something like that.

I do give the understudy credit. She does have a great voice, but I heard other people talking about her too and everyone seemed a little disappointed. I give her credit for not just mimicking the way Sara plays it. She put her own twist to it.
How did you find out Tim is on vacation. I called telecharge to see if there were any understudies for today's show and all they tell you about is Hank. Feel free to PM me if necessary. Sems like getting in contact with the box office is a big secret.

It may not have been very impressive, compared to Sara...but what is? Just kidding, sort of.
It could have very easily been her first show. She'll get more comfortable the more she goes on. Understudies are historically shaky for their first performances.

Posted: 8/3/05 at 2:53pmNot sure if she was in Hairpsray. I think she just joined the cast last week. The insert for her just said that she'd be playing the role of the Lady of the Lake. It didn't have any information. She was very skinny, dark hair, if that helps. I was in the last row of the theater so couldn't make too much else out.

Posted: 8/3/05 at 7:39pmOn the board it said Regina Hill but on the insert it said Jenny Hill. Darlene Wilson was the understudy that was going on for Sara earlier. I remember seeing somethng about a show with understudys and the name on it and thinking she wasn' the understudy for Sara but it must have been in the works at the time. The show was about a week ago.

Posted: 8/3/05 at 7:45pmDarlene left the company 2 weeks or so ago, I think? I dont recall the exact date, all I know is the new understudy was there for her costume fitting about 2 weeks ago.

No. I'm not the understudy.. I just happened to be there when she was getting fitted for her costume.
No need for the sarcasm dear. It's quite unbecoming of you.

People on this board will never learn.
You are not, under any circumstances, to mess with CJR. This is standard protocol. You should all already be aware of this. Do not make me address this issue again. This meeting is over.

Posted: 8/4/05 at 10:14amI passed by the theater before and after my gym workout and before it his name was up, for the matinee show but it was taken down later so I think he's back in.

Posted: 8/4/05 at 10:32amI think John told me he was going to be in the show for something like 2 weeks while Curry was on vacation and that was about 2 weeks ago when I was down in the city, Bolton is from my home town and we have both worked for the same companies in rochester. This was on like July 20th. So Curry may very well be back.
