Hello everyone!
So I've seen Newsies twice and of course I'm obsessed like many people are. I'm planning to see it one more time before it closes. I have not tried to meet anyone at the stage door yet, but would like to try this time. Both times I've seen the show (a Tuesday night and a Sunday afternoon) I left the theater, did not notice anyone crowding in any particular area, and walked away. I've seen pictures of the stage door with barricades and tons of people, but this has not been my experience when I've gone. Can anyone tell me- do they put up the barricades after the theater clears out? Is that when everyone suddenly crowds around the doors? I want to be sure that I'm in the right place at the right time. From what I've read, the cast come out of the doors right in front of the theater and they come out about 15 minutes or so after the show ends. Is this correct? I'm planning to go on a Sunday when there is one show at 3pm. I'm hoping most of the cast comes out since it's a one show day?
Also- last time I saw Newsies (Sunday May 4th) I got rush tickets 1 hour before show time and sat 2nd row. I'm worried that tickets will be harder to get this time, since the show is closing. I've been checking Ticket Master each day this week and noticed that when I look at the next day's show, there are a ton of tickets. But then when I look the following afternoon for that night's show, there are not many left. I'm assuming this is because people are not buying in advance and a lot of people are rushing the show. Does this sound right? My plan is to get there early the day I go and hope to be near the front of the rush line. Good plan?
Thanks a ton!

Going to the stage door is really easy! All you have to do is go to it directly after the show and wait for the cast to come out (there will be barricades set up- probably immediately after the show ends). I don't remember exactly where the Nederlander stage door is, but with almost every theater, it shouldn't be too far away from the entrance to the theater. Maybe just arrive a little early to the show and find it before you enter the theater to make it easier on yourself when you leave. You're right, it should probably take 15-20 minutes or so for the cast to start coming out. Also, I'm fairly certain the Newsies cast typically signs for fans at the stage door after every performance so you should be fine on a Sunday matinee. I had friends that met the entire cast at the stage door on a Saturday matinee.
For rush, you're right again, it will probably be a bit harder to get rush tickets now that it's closing. (By harder, I mean you would just have to get in line earlier). Check out the Rush Report website I linked at the bottom to see how many people have been rushing on weekends lately, and that should give you a fairly accurate idea of when to get in line to be safe.

Actually the stage door is 'set up' at the entrance to the theatre. The barricades are out when you leave the theatre
The actual stage door of the theatre in inside the lobby, so that's not where you go to meet the cast after the show. The set up the barricades along the side doors that you exit the theatre from after the show. They have cast pictures on the if you wanna check them out before you go in. A lot of the time it's quite crazy with a lot of screaming girls, but sometimes it's nice with not too many people crowding. Quite a few cast members usually comes out.

Yep sorry, like I said, I wasn't totally sure about the actual stage door itself. But I think the other parts of my response should be accurate :)

Just walk out the front doors and walk to the left and you should see the barricades
