Next Overdone Musical?

However, no matter how much I would LOVE to direct Spelling Bee..I don't think I would be able to get it approved. Even though I know that there is nothing in it that high school kids don't already talk about on a daily basis--there would be quite a few "concerned" parents out there who would object to the erection song and the two fathers (neither or which could or SHOULD be removed from the show). There also would have to be some changes made to several of the lyrics to remove the g-d's in Pandemonium (and anywhere else they occur). I could see a very liberal school or a performing arts school get by with it...but mainly I see Spelling Bee being a Community Theatre gem. Which is too bad because I could have so much fun directing it with high schoolers!

Hairspray could be, but...like the earlier comments said, it is race specific for certain parts. I have a very "white" school due to the neighborhood. I could never pull it off.
Little Women is the front runner for high school's of the future.

Hairspray is another one and i have a really awful feeling that a certain poster was right and we'll be seeing high school productions of wicked.... done very badly badly! Bring MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE DOWN, ARGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I mean, these rights recently came out, can you imagine when they are around for a little while longer?! I couldnt even imagine when the rights for shows like Hairspray, Bee, Wicked, etc. are available. Whether a school can do it or not, they will. I just saw the whitest Aida ever!!!
