is this ever going to happen?
I know there is the video of Autumn Hurlbert singing Love Will Stay from it and thats all I have heard from it but it leaves me very intrigued... is this ever going to happen? and what about vote!?
I know that there is a reading planned for late spring. I'm excited to see a show developed especially for Autumn!
But I guess Ryann Ferguson & Steven Jamail are busy because I just joined a facebook group for the regional premiere of VOTE.
can't wait!!! :)
any news if she will do the reading? god, i hope so
I would guess. Esp. if Ferguson & Jamail are developing for her. At least, I hope.
Nicholas and Alexandra? As in Tsar Nicholas II and Princess Alix of Hesse and by Rhine. As a musical? Dreadful.
dreadful??
um, I would much rather see that than Shrek anyday
and atleast look at this first
sure this is still just a rough version, and there are mistakes here and there and things that need to be fixed vocal wise, but I'm in love with this song
love will stay (song)

yeah...sometimes it still amazes me how quick people are to dismiss something on these boards.... haven't we learned from musicals like Sweeney Todd, etc that almost anything, executed well, can make a great musical?
Anyhow, She performed this song as well as one other from the show, a trio at the concert they had. I'm hoping it will end up online as well, because it was (while not free of mistakes either :) pretty awesome too!
I thought I saw something about this show on another board, but when I did a search, this was the thread that came up. But I have also been interested in more music from this show.
I subscribe to Ferguson & Jamail's youtube channel and got this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pA4vNliYCA
I wish the sound quality weren't so bad, but whatareyougonnado?
omg thanks so much lachuisafan!
I wish they put up all of "Love Will Stay"
its so GORGEOUS now with the cello/violin/viola, whatever it is lol
omg, I love this, and the new music sounds wonderful
"dreadful??
um, I would much rather see that than Shrek anyday"
So you'd prefer to see messy material?
SHREK isn't that great either but.. really?
ok, how do you know its going to be messy?
have you even heard the songs?
no prob, pianolin.
I'm not sure what Charleston is "really"-ing? Am I missing something? I don't know that we should be holding preliminary concert performances of a brand new musical in development to a 40 million dollar Shrek.

I wouldn't call this 'dreadful', but I would say that N+A are not really good musical theatre characters nor is their story one for a musical.
They and their lives and their setting is that of grand opera. A musical would trivialize their tragedy. An opera would set their fall to scale.
Whoever is writing this work needs to rethink their piece.
its not really a story for a musical? better for opera? while I see where you are coming from, I can't really agree.
I don't think there is a specific story that is better as an opera vs. a musical, I mean, who would have thought that Nixon's visit to China would have been turned into an Opera? I think it all depends on how its written.
So, I can't really agree that this wouldn't work for a musical

I agree with ismellatony.
Subject matter alone is not the make or break of a show. My understanding (from both the video and other comments I've heard about the concert where the songs were performed) is that they're taking some historical license and going very personal with it.
Also, an earlier version of this show was workshopped with Stuart Ostrow a few years ago, and he thought it had potential, so I'm sure the creators are addressing the issues with the content.
Sincere music never trivializes anything.
