I was just wondering if anybody saw "Nick & Nora", and if the cast recording is worth buying. I'm totally in love with "The Thin Man" movies and I'm a big fan of Joanna Gleason, and I was wondering if the musical did them any justice. Thanks.

I saw "Nick & Nora" twice. It's not a very good show. I believe it was poorly written and directed. My opinion is to skip the cd. The casting is wonderful but the music is not very good.
Nick & Nora relies on the wit and repartee between the couple. The Broadway musical had them in competition to solve a case.

Posted: 4/2/04 at 11:11amThe CD is ok, but not great. Nearly every review of Nicka and Nora hated the show, but loved the score. Personally, as far as Strouse flops, I like Rags, Superman, and All American much better. And for Joanna Gleason, try I Love My Wife if you don't have it. Great Cy Coleman score with some really amazing piano riffs in a number called One Two Three that is some of the most amazing keyboard work I've ever heard in a musical.

I personally love the CD.
From "Men" to "Swell" to "Everybody Wants to Do a Musical", the songs are melodic and have amusing lyrics.
The cast is remarkable! Faith Prince, Joanna Gleason, Christine Baranski, Debra Monk - and the rest. Everyone has a pure grip on the dark comedic elements of the show.
My suggestion is to buy it! Hell, you can even hear clips of it on Amazon. Or go to a CD store and listen to it all beforehand. Virgin is great to do that...

Personally, Mister Matt, I found the piano charts in MY ONE AND ONLY even more technically challenging than I LOVE MY WIFE which is not really THAT difficult (the duties are shared by two pianists). The opening of Act Two in MY OWN AND ONLY was the thorniest arrangement I ever had to learn.
