No Tony nomination for Betty Buckley in Drood

I didn’t know of any early exit, but I have wondered about this. Perhaps she just got outperformed by her fellow cats members. In my opinion, Drood can be easily outshined by the Chariman and suspects, particularly since the roel is pretty much absent for all the voting, which is the show’s most popular part. I’m presuming she was submitted lead. I know she also had a reputation for being quite a diva back then, maybe that hurt her.

I saw the OBC twice, and while Buckley was certainly good, she did not stand out. Cleo Laine, on the other hand, was dazzling!

idk/idc if she got outshined by the cast but that performance of Writing on the Wall on the OBCR remains one of my favorite recorded moments in broadway history. that final note blew my socks off the first time I heard it
