Hey Everyone-
Quick Question here:
Is it true nonequity can POSSIBLY be seen at the VERY end of the day at an equity call? If that is true, how exactly would a nonequity member go about getting seen on these days? Thanks in advance guys!
Doug

From what I understand, the non equite person has to hang out in the waiting area just outside of the Equity lounge, and get someone to take a message to the Monitor of the audition, with a Resume and a note asking to audition. Then, if there is time after all the Equity people are seen, the monitor might come out and call the names of the non-eq's that have been waiting to (hopefully) audition. At least it was done this way a few years ago. Things may have changed.
(the above is for auditions that happen at AEA.)

You show up at the call early in the morning and sign up on the non-Equity list.* Then, when the monitor shows up, he or she will tell you when and if to come back to see if they will be able to see non-Eq. If they have room to do so, they will call the non-Eq from the list as slots are available. Read up on the different kinds of auditions at http://www.actorsequity.org

I would imagine you can get in to most dance calls--especially if you are a boy. Everything else is hit or miss. EPAs that fill up and have a long alternate list are for sure not going to see you.
* the list at Actors Equity is in the hall, you do not send a note to the monitor. At Equity, they will keep you posted.

Posted: 5/21/04 at 4:52pmjrb - thanks for correcting me - a few years back they didn't put up a non-eq list at equity, so people had to have someone in the union go in and ask the monitor if it was possible to be seen - the list being posted is a much better way to handle it.
