Novotel

I've looked through the old and new hotel threads on the forum and didn't see much about The Novotel. I'm looking at staying there when I visit NYC in April, due to the location next to the theatres. Anyone have any comments about it, positive or negative? All opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

It is a nice hotel, I stayed there the last time I was in the city. The rooms are average sized, and yah it is nice. I wasn't in the hotel very much, I was out and about the city most of the time. It is far from horrible but it is not the most amazing place I have stayed in. Hope that helps.

I agree with John.

It's a close distance to the Gershwin and a bit more of a trek to mid-south Times Square. Rooms are reasonable but nothing outstanding. I paid $159/night for 2 doubles in the off-season and felt that was too high. If you can't get it for less than $130/night, look elsewhere.

Thanks, John3 and Type_A_Tiff. The only other hotels I'm finding in that area that are cheaper are The Washington Jefferson Hotel, The Mayfair, and The Best Western Presidents Hotel. The WJ seems pricey given the small room size and I've read mixed reviews of The Mayfair and the Best Western.
Given that, would you still say look at one of them rather than The Novotel (I'll be paying $159 night there)?

Have you been reading Tripadvisor.com for those reviews? I always consult Tripadvisor and it hasn't lead me wrong yet. If I remember correctly, those three hotels are ranked quite low (somewhere in the 200's out of 300+ hotels). If you consult TripAdvisor's ratings, I wouldn't stay in a hotel ranked under #175. Given that, if those are your only other options in the hotel class/price range, I'd grudgingly go for Novotel at $159/night. (In fact, I think that's the reason I stayed there in the first place!)
