>>during my suicide I jumped off the bridge with the noose around my neck, and i landed (mid-air),
Whoa...is that usual to have an actual noose around your neck for that show (JCS)? Sounds mighty dangerous to me.

Posted: 8/27/06 at 5:06pmI did a community theatre production of "Deathtrap" several years ago where I played Sidney Bruhl. The last two performances I had the flu and a fever of 103. It was tough, but the show went on!

My neighbor played Sandy in Grease at her high school, and during a number she had to run to the front of the stage, and do a dance, but instead she ran, fell off the stage (this is like a 5 foot high stage) and broke her ankle. no not sprained but broke. She got up on stage, continued the rest of the show in pain, then the net day she didnt go to the doctor, and had to do the show while on codine (like vikodin, only not as bad).
Those were some scary shows right there.

A friend of mine grew a goatee for Rooster in "Annie" for half a year. Half to grow it, half keeping it for the show.
He also dyed his hair blonde for Rolf in "The Sound of Music" to match with the movie. Crazy commitment. :)

Posted: 8/27/06 at 7:22pmDuring Once on This Island, the guy playing my Daniel got into a bad car accident before a performance. He chose to perform before going to the hospital. He he had a concussion. As I was holding him during Pray, I watched blood trickle down his head....I guess it made the pain look real on stage. He made it through.

I never witnessed this, but it happened three years ago during my school's Les Miserables. It was the last few days of rehearsal, and a girl in the ensemble was standing in the wings. Somehow, a 25 lb stageweight that was suspended about 20 ft into the air came loose, and fell onto her head. She was rushed to the hospital, and suffered some permanent damage. She performed in all 5 shows which started only 3 days after the incident.

This past March I assistant directed a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the local high school. Ten minutes before curtain on opening night the girl who played Puck fell backstage badly injuring her leg and spraining her ankle. As most of you know the role of Puck is very physically demanding, and our set had many stairs both onstage and off (it was modeled after the Festival Stage at the Stratford Festival). But she went on that night and did every show for the rest of the run.
Those high school kids, nothing phases them.

I was in a one act play and the night before the last show I went to the hospital- in an ambulance at 2:00am.
My side felt like it had when I had appendicitis (I had that a few months earlier) but since I no longer had my appendix, it obviously wasn't that.
In the hospital, my fever went up and I was throwing up. To make a long story short, I had a kidney stone but it was too big to pass so I needed surgery. I said I refused to have surgery until the show was over so. After a bit of arguing how I shouldn't do the show- I went on the "The show much go on..." rant. I then went to do the show straight from the hospital (with drugs up my buzzuga) and did the show...that was tough...
I then had the kidney stone removed.

Post of the week!

A friend of mine had the stomach flu while on tour with a show. Unfortunately for her, the day she came down with it she couldnt have her understudy go on because there were some big wigs from the producing office there to see her. She went on anyway, and spent her time offstage sick as a dog.... but made it through the whole show.
Man, I gave her SUCH kudos for that. I never could have done it!
