lol. I edited before you posted that. I guess we think alike. :)

David Cote gave Chitty such a nice review, and yet Time Out NY does not print it, but prints a negative review by someone else instead. I just don't get it. re: OFFICIAL 'Chitty' Review Thread..

re: OFFICIAL 'Chitty' Review Thread..

The word of mouth on Chitty has given it quite a healthy advance sale. It probably wont win many awards from the theater elitists but it will be around much longer than some of the shows which do get the honors. I want to see more jobs in our community and wish all the productions well. There must always be a wide variety of shows to keep our audiences growing. From what I see, Chitty seems to be reaching many generations of ticket buyers.

Lou, You always say you want to see a wide variety of audinces and all shows to do well and then you take a swipe at Elitists and Sondheim. So do you not want those of us who enjoy artistically done theatre to also have a place, many shows don't run as long that's true, but they still play a role. I know actors, crew, and musicians who feel honored to work on Sondheim shows, even if that means they may not run as long.
I am a person who enjoys well crafted theatre, I like spectacle and substance and actually support all the shows on Broadway.

By the way with Chitty I am very glad it is doing well, and it did not get terrible reviews, but it certainly should not win awards because it will sell well. I think it has some performances that could pick up nominations, and the sets, etc are well done though.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

I like my high art. My love for Chitty doesn't lessen that at all, but penguin makes a good point. It's great to get the kids involved and have something that almost everybody can love, but something like that can't replace the theatre that really gets under your skin and make you think. I don't even know that it's fair to bill one as "better" than the other, since each has its advantages.
A work of art is an invitation to love.
