I am seeing it in May.
It is one of the better non-equity productions out there.

Posted: 3/9/05 at 5:59pmworth it to see the Stroman choreography, which is very well-preserved (at least when it played Houston). i know there are union issues with her sending it out, but viewing the dance live in combination with the National Theatre DVD version, it's a great education in her style. i also liked how her choreography reinforced the text of the 1943 libretto, as well as some stuff from GREEN GROW THE LILACS that the latest revival incorporated.

Posted: 3/9/05 at 6:35pmI saw it in LA while on vacation. I thought the sets were pretty, and the guy who played Curly had a great voice. My sister, who isn't a huge musical theatre fan, fell asleep. I enjoyed it, but then again Oklahoma is not one of my favorite shows. It's still decent though.

Posted: 3/9/05 at 7:59pmI saw it in L.A. and walked out at intermission. Actually there were a lot of walkouts. I chatted with one guy who said he couldn't believe HOW bad it was, after seeing this production in London. That said, there were a few people whooping and hollering after every number.

i wrote this for another post... but it still applies to this one:
"When i saw the national tour of "Oklahoma!" at the Pantageous Theatre in LA, the family that sat behind me was looking through their program to see if there were any famous people in the cast. They even asked if knew where the actors bios and headshots were in the program. I told them that there weren't any because they arent required for non-equity actors. And then there was the orchestra... "Oklahoma!" should have a 18 piece orchestra. How many pieces did this "orchestra" have? Eight! Ten instruments were replaced by a computer (and yes you can tell a difference!) !!
If i would have paid $50 for those tickets (i got free ones from a friend) like the family behind me, i would have been furious. Paying equity-price for tickets to a non-equity show is a rip off. (or at least in the case of "Oklahoma!") i CAN tell the difference."
the whole show was just lacking in everything...

i saw it in la and all i can say is that it's even worse than the evita tour and that aint good.
i don't think there was one good performance on that stage.

Posted: 3/9/05 at 9:54pmHow is the current Laurey? Cause if it's who it was a few months ago, I went to college with her and would be interested in hearing about her performance.

Wow..and the Evita tour is EQUITY.
So, you must be mistaken. Since Evita is Equity, it could not possibly be worse than an non-Equity tour.
Cause we all know that non Equity is bad and sucks no matter what. Only goodness comes from Equity.

Yes Carl, It's Julie. She is great. I did Oklahoma with her at Artpark. Didnt you get to see it? She is fantastic. If she plays it the same way she did 2 yrs ago, she does a nice job with the role.
