Have you see it before? It's an excellent play. We had it at Dallas Theater Center a few years ago and it was pretty intense. That's partly due to the close, almost claustrophobic way it was staged at DTC, but it's just generally in-your-face with the violence, blood, nudity, etc.

Saw this last night after M Butterfly. It just blew away M Butterfly. A very clever recast of the Oedipus myth in So Central LA. Joel Perez is completely different here than Sweet Charity or Fun Home. Most of the others were not known to me but have extensive bios. Sandra Delgado is beautiful enough to convince you that a man young enough to be her son (literally) would be attracted to her. She is also nude for a good 15 minutes of they play. The play is fast paced and has some great visual effects for an otherwise bare bones production.

This is not a play I ever thought I would enjoy watching but it was a knockout. I expected a lot more violence and blood but it was pretty tame except for the ending. There are many liberties taken with the actual play but that didn't lessen the experience. Go in with an open mind but don't expect it to match what you read in high school one hundred percent. The set is pretty sparse but the actors make use of the space by walking into the audience at various parts. This is definitely one of the the best things currently playing at the Public based on what I've seen there this Fall and heard from people. I would skip the dreadful Measure for Measure. Run time was an hour forty minutes.

Off topic, but I agree with your assessment of the MEASURE FOR MEASURE at the Public. One of the worst travesties of Shakespeare production I have ever seen. Several walk outs. I stayed to the end. Not sure why - I may have been asleep.

I didn't care for this. It felt too amateurish, and I don't think it was a successful enough adaptation.

Blown away by this play, and the production, and the cast. This was such an interesting way to tell the story of relationships with big age differences. The story of an older woman who lost her son and the story of a younger man who always wanted a mother - they're both missing something in their lives that they find in each other. It was quite beautiful.
WARNING: There is lots of full frontal nudity. Don't take the children.

Not to sound pervy, but does Perez do full frontal as well?
