I tried to go late this afternoon and it was SOLD OUT!
I went across the stree to Tower and bought the "Limited Edition" CD set instead.
Yes, I have to see it again. And listening to the soundtrack, I know Gerry Butler is a good Phantom, and totally appropriate...sex, danger, and sufficiently high levels of testosterone.

ok, just got back from viewing #2...
i'm still highly impressed. it really is an amazing movie. i don't really understand why everyone is so picky about it. heaven forbid gerry isnt EXACTLY like what the phantom is on broadway. his take on the character is fresh and highly emotional. yes, i still agree there are flaws, but so what, the show has them too. you can't expect perfection.

I saw it this afternoon and thought it was an unmitigated disaster! Completely uninspired, entirely miscast, poorly directed, overly long, lacking any real feeling or emotion, and DULL, DULL, DULL!!! What a major disappointment! Absolutley nothing about it impressed me in the least. (With the exception of Minnie Driver, whose performance I found amusing.) And after hearing how visually beautiful it was, I wasn't even knocked out by the look of it. The colors were muted, the set design was stale (had a "seen it all before" look to it), and the costumes, for the most part, were nothing to write home about. This is one movie musical that I would never subject myself to sitting through a second time. I barely made it through the first.

Oh, Curtain.
It wasn't that bad.
Did we see that same film?

I don't know Jose. Maybe not. I even saw it at my most favorite theatre. The Ziegfeld. I've seen so many movie musicals there over the years. I was really looking forward to it and wanted to love it. I root for every movie musical to succeed. Believe me, if I was only half interested in seeing it, I would never have ventured into mid-town from Brookyln on such a cold day. Especially when I have a movie theatre right around the corner from me. But I did, and I was majorly disappointed. Different strokes, I guess. I wish I had enjoyed it as much as you did.
By the way... can I have the name of your pharmaceutical distributer?

If someone tells you it's "craptastic," don't believe them.
Go see it for yourself and then make up your own mind.
Like so many other things in life, if you don't try it you'll never know if you like it or not.

Jose', I agree with you. I'm not a fan of the stage production but I will go and, quite frankly, I'm looking forward to seeing this movie and hoping for the best.
