The question is why was ACL:the movie changed so much? Great cast that included some amazing performers who were in it on Broadway but why they altered the script, added/cut songs and didn't use Bennett's original choreography are beyond me.
Fosse actually wanted to direct the film but was never asked. His answer to how ACL:the movie should be is in the opening ("Broadway") of ALL THAT JAZZ.

The film is a travesty with more dunder-headed, misguided mistakes and cuts to the text that all copies of it should be burned. Just how stupid did Attenborough have to be to turn "What I Did For Love" into a toss away love ballad for Cassie, rather the climactic moment of the stage version which underscores the entire meaning of the show? He should have been shot.

Oy. I remember seeing this. I was 15. I had seen it the year before for the first time on stage. I was so pissed.

Do you mean to tell me you sat through that travesty and THAT was your first question?

PEACE.

I use the DVD as a coaster.

As much as I loathe that film and discourage any and everyone from watching it, you must admit that Vicki Frederick is a pretty damn phenomenal Sheila!

Also, I literally busted out laughing rather loudly in the movie theatre at the bad hair piece Alyson Reed wore as Cassie in one of the flashback scenes.

I love Cassie's asymetrical 80s haircut. I also love the moment in the audition where the non dancing Larry pulls that girl in the aquamarine leotard out from the group and says..."Watch this...this is right."

A terrible film, but if you can get away from the raping of the material there is some good campy laughable moments good for any Marijuana and Margaritas party.

That's Michelle Johnston as Bebe in the aquamarine leotard. She was also Gay the choreographer in SHOWGIRLS. Am I the only one that put that together in the movie theatre as well and squealed with delight?

I don't even own the film but I have thought about purchasing it to just reconfirm my disdain for it. We shall see.

Before I knew that this movie was tragically horrible and everyone knew it...I watched it...and when I hated it, I felt so bad because I didn't like one of the greatest musicals ever....

Now I realize I'm supposed to like the SHOW..not the movie...
so I feel better now :)

and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...
