Old Theater term

Can some please explain to me the origin of the term "To eat the scenery" and exactly what you think it means?

re: Old Theater term

Are you talking about the term to "chew" the scenery.

It refers to someone whose performance is over the top. Their acting is so big that it is too much; far beyond believable.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
