Posted: 6/16/04 at 12:09amHow do they intend to have "more than" 50 songs in one show. Obviously this will be aimed at families and that means little kids. There ain't no kid that's gonna sit through a 5 hour musical, Disney or not.

Posted: 6/16/04 at 12:12amI'm guessing medleys.

Posted: 6/16/04 at 12:12amI have a feeling it will be done in medleys(I cringe at that word). As in..The Aladdin medley, The Little Mermaid medley, and so on.

Posted: 6/16/04 at 12:13amWow. Disney is butchering more of their classics. Which reminds me - I can't wait to see their direct to video versions of Pinocchio 2 and Dumbo 2.

I half look forward to this. I adored most Disney films until 1996. After HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, most non-Disney/Pixar films were god awful.
Great music in LITTLE MERMAID, LION KING, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, PETER PAN, MULAN, CINDERELLA, ALADDIN, POCAHONTAS, HERCULES, and TARZAN.

To me, the last good Disney movie was THE LION KING. A few after that had one or two good songs, but on the whole have absolutely no magic the other films did.
But does anyone know if this is just a musical review or does this show actually have a plot?

Posted: 6/16/04 at 12:20amI heard it's has a plot. Wonder if it will be like MAMMA MIA!, but instead of ABBA, all Disney songs with a plot to have the songs make sense.

Posted: 6/16/04 at 12:22amSpeaking of Disney on Broadway, does anyone know whatever happened to their stage versions of PINOCCHIO, THE LITTLE MERMAID, TARZAN or HUNCHBACK?

Posted: 6/16/04 at 12:23amI think the Tarzan one is cast.

Posted: 6/16/04 at 12:28amI don't get the concept of Tarzan. One Tarzan sings? The other acts (and swings)? Is that right or a rumor?
#15re: On The Record Auditions
Posted: 6/16/04 at 12:28amIt is correct.

I had wondered, because Phil Collins' music from Disney's TARZAN is not sung by Tarzan. In fact, NONE of the characters sing, except for one song "Trashin' The Camp" which would make an AMAZING Stomp-like number.
Love the music from the show, but could never picture it as a stage musical.
BTW - Rosie O Donnell was the voice of the main monkey dude that Tarzan hung out with. Perhaps Rosie will join the cast and revive her role?

The mother ape somewhat "sings" You'll Be in My Heart at the beginning of the film.
Though the films were a bit weak, I love the scores to Mulan, Pocahontas and Hercules. Zippel's lyrics to Hercules are simply amazing!

According to the Press Info. I was given at the season previews in Philly, this show is "a recoding studio setting where a team of talented people will sing and dance over 50 songs from several Disney shows including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin,Tarzan, Hunchback, Sleeping Beauty, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Lady & the Tramp, Cinderella and Snow White".

It will likely be medley sets and they are boasting some great special effects and Disney magic. If you're a Disney fan, this will be One to See! If not...skip it. But personally I think it's about time and it will be very popular as a touring show.
I think the chance to audition to be part of a Disney project is an opportunity I wouldn't pass up. If you're hired, you'll be seen by a ton of people who may think you're special.
