Now that On Your Feet and Allegiance are both in previews, which show would you recommend?

Haven't seen On Your Feet, but from having seen Allegiance, and reading the board's opinions about On Your Feet. I'd say:
Both musicals have their strengths. Allegiance deals with earnest, emotional and important themes and historical events. However, it's not the most well-constructed musical, and the music isn't the most interesting. On Your Feet, from what I gather, is also not very well-constructed, but Gloria Estefan's music is a lot of fun, as is the musical as a whole.
If you like jukebox musicals and/or Gloria Estefan, go see On Your Feet! If you like more tradition-style musicals that deal with more heavy themes and historical events, go see Allegiance.
If you want a more direct answer based on my own personal preference in musicals: see Allegiance, not On your Feet.

I have seen both shows twice. I thoroughly enjoyed both of them for different reasons. My vote would go to Allegiance, though.

I've seen On your Feet in its Chicago tryout and loved the show there! I am a fan of Gloria and MSM music. It was very enjoyable to see their music come alive in a Broadway musical!!
I haven't seen Allegiance but I am a Lea Salomga fan. I will watch anything with her on it! I have also been listening to the mini cast album from San Diego tryouts and watched the Trek to Broadway episodes, both making me teary every time. I saw Lea say in an interview that the impact of Allegiance will be in the heart not the head (or something like that)
i think you won't go wrong with any of them. I plan to watch both shows in my next NYC trip in Jan 2016. But if you want to see something with more substance, I think that will be Allegiance. Its backdrop of the interment of Japanese-American during WWII is often forgotten and a story that needs told even if it is not the easiest story to tell

I have now seen both, ON YOUR FEET twice, Alegence once.
It depends what you are looking for on a show. If you want a feel good, fun, uplifting story see OYF
If you want a slightly depressing original musical with so so music and a sappy ending you will see coming a mile away, see Alegence.

I saw both shows this weekend. Allegiance is a more "important" musical about a truly shameful period of American history. As someone who loves Japan and Japanese culture, it pained me to watch it. On Your Feet is exhilarating, inspiring, and thoroughly entertaining. If you want to have a great time at a dazzling show with fantastic music and dancing, see On Your Feet. If you want to see something meaningful that has some good performances, but also has unremarkable music and thinly drawn characters, see Allegiance.
