Whoa, that "Bend and Snap" number looks depressing. Isn't Paulette supposed to be shy and inadequate? Guess she's different in the musical.
Can't get enough of the little LoveMusik segment. Not a big fan of Murphy's gloves, but who cares about her costume when she's singing "Surabaya Johnny" so greatly. Cerveris' "It Never Was You" sounds glorious.
Thanks for the link!

As much as I try, I just hate that "Bend and Snap" song.
Ugh.
Esparza, Murphy, and Cerveris were all great.

Yeah, not what I expected the Bend and Snap bit to be at all; that's one of my favorite scenes in the movie, but that clip did not do it for me. Orfeh's got a hell of a set of pipes, though.
Cerveris and Murphy both sounded fantastic. I cannot wait to see LoveMusik.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 9:20pmTo clarify, (since I'm assuming you haven't seen the show), the Bend and Snap comes well in to the second act and is the moment Paulette is *supposed* to come out of her shell. And it's not only not depressing but one of the highlights of the show. It's definitely not well represented in that clip. I've been to the MTC benefit more than once and I'm always disappointed. For those prices, they should be able to get a better sound system.

Did anyone else notice how much quicker the tempo for Bend & Snap seems to be in that little performance clip? It appeared like Dequina/Annaleigh/Orfeh all seemed be trying to keep up with the much-quicker-than-usual music.
None of the performances stuck out to me at all - I agree with FosterChild about the sound system.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 9:39pmYes it was very obvious something was way off with the tempo. It was much much faster and NOT in a good way.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 9:47pmI agree with all of what Emcee said about the Bend and Snap sequence.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 11:42pmI can't decide if I think Bend and Snap is good or bad because I am too distracted by the fabulous Orpheh...SING IT GIRL!

I wish they showed more of "Surabaya Johnny". I saw it Friday night and Donna Murphy's performance was absolutely brilliant. That little clip doesn't do it justice. It was the highlight of the show for me.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 11:57pmThe Bend & Snap is one of the BEST numbers in the show and makes no sense out of context but Orfeh sounds absolutely AMAZING in that clip even though the song is going at the speed of light! What's everyone complaining about? If you've seen the show you know and if you haven't DON'T go off a 30 second clip and start doing the "judgeing" thing. I think it looks great and you can't blame them if it's too fast.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 11:59pmI'm not judging the song, I'm judging what I've seen of the songs, and frankly, I think what I've seen of it sucks.

Oh please, they post a clip, it's there for people to judge or admire, period.
The song itself sounds awful, and while Orfeh sure can sing (and how!), the whole number looks so messy. Also, is that Laura Bell Bundy trying to "bend and snap"? If it is her indeed, she needs to learn how to do it.
Agree about the sound system though.
