What does everyone think of this musical? I'm debating whether or not to buy the cast recording.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

One of the best musicals you could ever have in your collection. I highly recommend it. (Just don't get the London cast recording - make sure it's the Original Broadway cast)
It's a beautiful love story with a great cast.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Fabulous. Don't hesitate to buy it; it's a great score with a great cast (OBC).

This is yet another show that at one point in time held the position of "my favorite". It's very fun.

I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!

The book it's based on, 'My Love, My Love (Or, The Peasant Girl)', is great too.

Slaton, I love that book. Especially the last few lines about the rain falling on her face as if they were tears. That is so beautiful, as it has a beautifully tragic ending...

Ohhhh, Ti Moune....

We did this show my freshman year of High school, and I highly recommend it, particularly the OBC recording. Of course I played in the pit, which makes me love the music more, but the story is great and the music is highly original and lovely. Some of my favorites are "Waiting For Life," "Rain," "Pray," "Forever Yours," "Mama Will Provide," and "The Human Heart." Just such a diversity of all kinds of songs, go out and get it, you'll love it!

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

Yes, just stay away from the London recording, as people have said. It's god awful.

I just bought it(OBC) a few weeks ago. Never gave it the full Broadway whore try. In college, everyone adored it, so naturally I turned away from the masses. Idiot. I knew the music. But now I sing "Waiting For Life To Begin" with warmth and gayness. And who cannot skip past to the end of "Mama Will Provide" without hearing the last, " iIIIde !!"

I thank my best bud for the concert clips with them. Wish I had seen it originally. Updated On: 3/12/05 at 04:07 AM

This is a wonderful show, soundtrack. I was lucky enough to see the Benefit Reunion show but wish I could have seen the full show. Great story, songs, cast. I personally love LaChanze. It is tied as my favorite musical with Aida. Best, MB

Nothing substantial to add, but another big fan.

Why do we play with fire? Why do we run our fingers through the flame? Why do we leave our hands on the stove, although we know we're in for some pain? -tick...tick...BOOM!

This thread reminded me of the show. I'm listening to it right now and loving it. I did the show 3 years ago and did a ton of research into it. I definitely recommend Rosa Guy's book if you like the story.
