Posted: 12/22/04 at 11:03amGotham, I was thinking the same thing, but since I just got lambasted for ageism on another thread, I wasn't gonna say anything..

Posted: 12/22/04 at 11:05amMs. Burnett has addressed the issue of age in an interview. Her position is that in a kingdom where marriage has been outlawed, it makes sense to have an older princess.

Posted: 12/22/04 at 11:15amUllman won't be much, if any, older than Burnett was when this was televised in the 70's with Ken Berry as the Prince and Jack Gilford as the King.

Posted: 12/22/04 at 11:20amThe fact that she is "older" just makes it all the more desperate. The stakes are so much higher...tic...tic...tic...

Posted: 12/22/04 at 11:25amThe '70's version was just an encore type production. Burnett had done the show for tv in 1964. I just feel that Ullman is "insurance" for the show rather than perfect casting.

Posted: 12/22/04 at 11:31amGotham, who did you wish to see in the role?
#13re: Once Upon A Mattress Movie...?
Posted: 12/22/04 at 11:32amwe recently saw the 70s production at the museum of radio and television, and I personally love the original, black and white version best of all - and I'm looking forward to seeing this remake. I love Tracey!

Posted: 12/22/04 at 11:36amI love Tracey too, redhot.

Posted: 12/22/04 at 11:43amIt's a definite thing -- they completed filming in late September. I talked to Matt Morrison about it in October and he said filming was complete and the movie would probably be out sometime in early 2005.

Posted: 12/22/04 at 11:58amI'd take Tracy Ullman over the previously announced and much more annoying and overrated Marissa Jaret Winouker. Ugh, she drives me crazy. The bubbly as sunshine act is just way too much.

Gotham, who did you wish to see in the role?
Since the comedy doesn't have to be as broad for tv as it was for the stage, I think Sutton Foster would have been good in it. She has the awkwardness that would make the role funny and it would have given her career a boost.

Posted: 12/22/04 at 12:28pmYes, Bobby, I became MUCH more interested in this movie once Ullman was announced and Winokur was no longer a possibility. Does nothing for me, that one.

Posted: 12/22/04 at 12:31pmyes - lets not get started on the dubious merits (or lack thereof) of the Wink...she makes me want to puke every time I see her interviewed or performing - just too friggin much for me. and it all seems completely faked.

Posted: 12/22/04 at 12:44pmoooh gosh - I am just NOT a lea DeLaria fan - she is just too brash for me - and every time I've heard her sing - she's been off pitch, which really annoys me.

Posted: 12/22/04 at 12:49pmYeah she is boring as hell on the Leading Ladies DVD - all one level. Didn't impress me at all - I kept wondering when the heck she was going to be finished already.
