One Acts

So I have to apologize right now for anyone who hates looking through annoying posts from people who need help.

That being said:

Every year, our drama program ends our season of four shows (1 shakespeare, 1 straight show, 1 musical, and then a senior farewell)with senior directed one acts about a month after the farewell. The one acts are chosen by each 'director' and they can't be longer than 15 minutes, preferably no mainly-female casts. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I could find really helpful books of one acts--I've looked through quite a few, but they seem more cheesy than I'd like. I'm looking for either something evry dramatic or very funny, and I wouldn't mind if they were more challenging than usual.

If anyone knows any specific one acts they have in mind, that would be great, too :0)

Christopher Durang writes some good one act plays that can be about 15 minutes long. Also there's David Ives.

Racetrack.

There's a nice book called Take Ten: New 10-Minute Plays that has 32 plays 10 minutes or less. I'm rather fond of "The Man Who Couldn't Dance" by Jason Katims from the book, myself (1f, 1m). But it's chock full of great stuff. I believe there's also a second book, but I don't happen to own it, so I can't comment on it. You might even be able to find it at a library; it's at our library here, and I live in the middle of nowhere. re: One Acts

Edward Albee has written many one-act plays. Most of them don't have too many different characters, though.

David Ives has written some really good One Acts. (Sure Thing, and Mystery at Twicknam Vicaridge to name a couple.)

Another really good play is The Fifteen-Minute Hamlet. (I can't remember who wrote it.) If you don't mind going over the time limit a little bit, The Two-Minute Hamlet is usually used as an encore for it.

So now you've met the court of 364, and if you ever wish to come...don't.

Yeah, I was in Sure Thing last year, and Ives and Durang write great stuff but it's all extremely over done at my school so we have to try and stay away from those particular authors.

BTW Racetrack: LOVE your icon!!!! I've loved Newsies since it came out and Racetrack is my fave!! :0)

Shape of Things isn't a fifteen minute play.

Try Durang.
