I don't mind so much.
He has so much going for him in his performance of Guido Contini, I can forgive a small flaw here and there.

I went into this show knowing that Chita was going to have one solo so I was prepared to be pretty bored while she was off stage. I got the surprise of my life!
I loved the show. Banderas was wonderful and Mary Stuart Masterson drove me into a "google" frenzy searching for any version I could find of "Be On Your Own" until the CD came out.

funny, i've been noticing this with a lot of men in theater. the "yeew" disease.
happens in aida (how i know "yeew"), rent (manley pope used to be a big "yeew" guy), tick tick boom (raul - what can "yeew" do). and others that aren't coming to mind right now. when i started realizing a trend, i was thinking .. "some voice teacher is really taking over broadway, making everyone say 'yeeew'."

Posted: 5/16/05 at 10:44pmi noticed this too mfl... it annoyed me in the beginning, but the production is too good to worry about that. especially mary stuart masterson, who brings me to tears! ironically, i have the opposite problem, my voice teachers have always told me that my 'you' is too open and i need to close the vowel more.. haha

It was one of the call back songs for our auditions this year and as I sat there listening to 4 different girls sing it, I seriously bawled my eyes out the whole time. Couldn't help it LOL. If anyone is interested this fall University of Illinois department of theatre is performing NINE. I am assistant directing it and it is going to be amazing!!!!
