I have question, what is the difference between opening night and any other show?
Well, besides previews, opening night is the first regular performance. It's not different, just one of the first ones.

It's the first night the show is being run. If there are previews there is still an official opening night because previews are when a show is polished. In terms of spirit, an opening night has so much excitement in it because it's special. The first night.
Opening night is usually when all the "biggies" are there and few regular people like myself who likes to go to them. Of course there's a red carpet, press, and everyone looks pretty. You get the coveted Opening Night playbill.
Mucho fun.
Weeeeellll, that's not entirely true anymore. I've been to opening nights that were JUST like any other night (or more boring) & to opening nights that were just huge. These days it's mostly just an official distinction, plus there's a party for the investors, cast, crew, etc.
Opening night shows used to start at 6:30. I don't know if that's still the case but they had an earlier start time so that the TV reviews would be ready for the 11 o'clock newscasts and the newspaper critics could have a little more time to get their reviews into the papers which would be on the streets a few hours later.
Opening nights still usually start early.
The only one I've been to that WASN'T like that lc was The Frogs.

I was at the Frogs too! It wasn't huge but I was sitting on the next bench from Matthew Broderick at intermission.
